I have a family member who is currently here. She has been here since either August or September 2017.
She is trying to recover from an anurysm & two strokes from June 2017.
A lot of the CNA's seem to really care, and try to make the patients comfortable, and then there are the ones that do a 1/2 asset job. The 6th floor people, (social services), can't respond to a page, and come to a room for 2 minutes, to witness a signature. If they are "already out on the floor"", to your job, and let's make life a bitmore simple, for the families having to deal with loved ones being here.
The RT therapists, mostly nice, and seem to care.
It's the lack of CNA's coming in to change the patients. It's supposed to be every 3 hours, not every 5-whenever you want. The reaccurance of UTI's, constantly proves that! The lack of response when machines keep beeping. It's constant. The lack of being able to hear patients that need to be suctioned.
All of these patients are people. A lot of them still feel and hear. These people did not ask to go through what they did, to be here. They need to be more attentive to patients, and their needs. To be given the compassion they deserve. To treat them as human beings, given support to get better.just now, i had to go get an RT, because the neighbor lady needed to be suctioned. They can't hear it, sitting down the hall.

My mother-in-law spent about three weeks here in August/September 2017. I visited nearly every day. This review is from my perspective, as someone visiting a patient on the fifth floor. Overall, it was a pretty rosy place.

The building has easy access from the street and a ground-level parking lot that's accessed by 15th Street or the rear alley. The parking lot is usually full during the day so they offer valet service. Street parking can be challenging thanks to permit parking restrictions. Parking in the evening and on weekends is much easier. The building feels fresh and modern. It’s in a great location and is subject to ocean breezes. It looks like the kind of place where I want the people I love to receive care. The common areas are composed of a central nurses’ station, a sitting area, and a TV/dining room. Each patient room has two beds, two televisions, closets and lamps for each patient, a curtain to separate the patients, plus a window with an air-conditioning unit. The noise from the commons doesn’t create noise pollution in the private rooms and vice versa. The entire place was clean and airy and relaxing.

The Beachwood staff that I spoke with seemed like good, caring people. I dealt with nurses, therapists, and administration. If I were to grade all three of these categories separately, the therapists would get top marks with the nurses not far below. The administration gets a barley passing grade. The administrators did their jobs but were often inaccessible or looking to give routine answers without first listening to the questions. My first time dealing with them I was given many pamphlets but no answers. Additionally, my mother-in-law was discharged over the Labor Day weekend. Her case worker and doctor both had the weekend off plus the HMO had a lot of office closures. All it took was two small things to completely muck up her discharge – two small things that access to the case worker would have alleviated and two small things that it took days of stress to resolve because the case worker didn’t return calls when back at work. My mother-in-law gave glowing reviews of some of the nurses and physical therapists. From her perspective the place was as good as it gets. She didn’t have to deal with admin the same way that I did.
